Day 637
South Africa had 80 deaths yesterday. Cases and deaths are trending down. 17,9% of the population are fully vaccinated and 24,0% have had at least 1 dose.
Let’s look at the top 10 lists for yesterday.
In Western Europe, cases are rising sharply and deaths are slowly trending up again. In the EU 66,3% of the population are fully vaccinated and 69,2% have had at least 1 dose. The EU and Western Europe are not the same but there is a large overlap between them so I think it is useful to quote EU vaccinations to provide context for this graph.
In the UK cases are rising sharply and deaths are slowly trending up again. 68,0% of the population are fully vaccinated and 74,1% have had at least 1 dose.
In the US deaths and cases are trending down. 57,1% of the population are fully vaccinated and 66,1% have had at least 1 dose.
In Israel, cases and deaths are trending down again. 63,0% of the population are fully vaccinated and 68,6% have had at least 1 dose.
In Australia, cases and deaths were rising although it looks like it might have peaked now. 57,8% of the population are fully vaccinated and 72,3% have had at least 1 dose.
In Russia, cases and deaths are rising again. 31,1% of the population are fully vaccinated and 34,2% have had at least 1 dose.
Globally, deaths and cases are trending down. More than 6.75 billion doses of vaccine have been administered—enough to fully vaccinate 43.9% of the global population
If we compare all the regions of the world we see that Eastern Europe and Russia now have the highest death rate (and it is still rising) with the US and Canada in second place. All the other regions are now below 1.5 deaths per million.
All vaccination data is obtained from the Bloomberg vaccine tracker.
